The second round of the President’s Cup was played last Saturday afternoon in cool and cloudy conditions with some very good scores the order of the day.
The competition of the day, sponsored by the Scousers, was won by Carolyn Robinson on a great score of 42 points. However, the star of the President’s Cup was Cameron McDonald who shot 41 points to add to his 36 points from round 1, giving him a total of 77 points to win. A well-deserved outcome for Cameron who was delighted with his effort.
The morning round saw the Captain’s Cup completed with this year’s winner Zach Nayar on a score of 78 points. Well done, Zach.
Both the Captain’s and President’s Cup will be presented formally at the annual club presentation dinner this coming October.

Thank you to Dean Trigg for putting together this write up …….
What an amazing six years it has been for Aldrich Potgieter.
In 2020, under the guidance of Junior Coordinator John Greer and Club Captain Steve Leonard, and under the tutelage of David Milne, and aged just 15, Aldrich won the WA Boys’ Amateur Championship and the South Australian Junior Masters
2021 was a breakout year for Aldrich, as he was part of the clubs history helping the JCC boys pennants team take out their 5th straight Junior Pennants Flag, then later that year formed part of the JCC Men’s Pennants flag winning team. He also took out the Western Australian Amateur Championship, then finished the year by becoming the JCC Men’s Club Champion.
In 2022 Aldrich was then invited to the Louis Oosthuizen junior academy back in South Africa, here Aldrich honed his game and won a number of events including a record 20+ shot victory.
His 2022 victories included, the South African Juniors International, the African Amateur Championship, the South African U19’s Boys Championship, the Western Province Amateur. The ultimate prize though, came in June of 2022, where Aldrich won The Amateur Championship at Royal Lytham & St Annes. The victory gave him an entry into The 150th Open Championship at St Andrews, The 2023 Masters at Augusta and the 123rd US Open held at the Los Angeles Country Club.
2022 also saw Aldrich represent South Africa in the Eisenhower Trophy held at Le Golf National and Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche southwest of Paris, then in September of 2022 represent the International team in the Junior Presidents Cup held in Charlotte, North Carolina.
In addition to his wins, he had top ten finishes at the African Amateur Stroke (3rd), the Cape Province Open (5th), the Northern Amateur (5th), The Boland Amateur Stroke play (7th) and the Nedbank Junior Challenge (2nd).
In 2023 Aldrich won the South African Amateur Stroke Play Championships at Leopard Creek, the Golden Jacket at the Georgia Championship, the Junior Invitational. He also finished 6th in the South African Stroke Play Championship.
After completing in the three Majors, Aldrich turned Pro and won his way onto the Korn Ferry Tour, the feeder Tour for the PGA TOUR.
In his first year on the Tour and in only the second event of the season, in January 2024 Aldrich won the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic by 1 shot and became the youngest winner in history on the Korn Ferry Tour.
February 2024 Aldrich shot a 59 in the 2nd round of the Astara Golf Championship in Columbia.
In his first season on the Korn Ferry, Aldrich secured a spot at the Tour Championship at the French Lick Golf Club, Indiana, finishing T40 for the event, this put him in 29th for the end of season, being inside the top 30 secured him his 2025 PGA Tour Card. The second youngest graduate of the Korn Ferry Tour, just behind Jason Day.
At a Monday qualifying for the John Deere Classic, Aldrich made a hole in one on the 345 yard par 4.
At the beginning of the 2025 season Aldrich, played a number events on the DP World Tour, finishing T8 at the BMW Australian Open, T2 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at The Gary Player Country Club, Sun City and T42 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship at Leopard Creek Country Club.
Aldrich then switched his attention to the PGA Tour, in February 2025 and in only his fourth event, Aldrich came so close to a win, finishing 2nd to Brian Campbell, after losing in a two hole playoff. In his 13th event, Aldrich came close again finishing T6 in the Charles Schwab Challenge, then in his 14th event, the Rocket Classic from the Detroit Golf Club, shooting a total of 266 (22 under par), Aldrich found himself in yet another playoff, this time a three man playoff with Chris Kirk and Max Greyserman, the playoff went to five holes, but Aldrich hole an 18 footer for birdie, to take out his maiden PGA Tour victory, and Tour exemption through to 2027. In his short time on the Tour, he has earned US$3.2m and is currently placed 36th in the FedExCup Standings for season 2025. Unfortunately despite his win, as he is outside of the top 20 on the FedEx standings, Aldrich did not collect an Open qualifying ticket.
Where too from here? Well this week Aldrich heads to the John Deere Classic and then the Genesis Scottish Open held at the Renaissance Club in early July hopefully where he will hope to win one of the remaining spots for the 153rd Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club, Northern Ireland.
Wow, what a journey the last six years has been, with 15 wins and 10 top 10’s across four continents. He is a generational talent, and it’s going to be interesting to see where his career goes from here.
Aldrich’s parents Hein and Adele will be so proud of you, as we the members of Joondalup Country Club are too.
